Mind your business.

Mind your business. What other people think of you is none of your business. Just mind your business.

Your life has been a drama from the beginning.

At school, we answer a question wrong and they laugh at us.

We speak our mind, and we are ridiculed.

We get cut from the team, and we’re a loser.

We apply for a promotion and we get shafted.

We trust someone, and we get hurt.

We start a business and it goes belly-up.

We see these as failures.

We see ourself as a failure.

Other people see us as a failure.

What damage to our self-esteem, self respect and ego?

ChaosOthers often see our lives as a failure. Keep your eye on the dream. Do not worry about what other people think or say. Mind your business.

WHAT DO YOU THINK OF YOU?

Hey! Shut up. What do you think of you? After all, you are the only person who is going to be really really close to you all your life. So suck it up buttercup. Get up. Stand up. Say it loud. I am great. I am a good person. Mind your business. Just mind your business.

'What people think of me is none of my business'. Mark Twain.

What do you think of you?

Start a business and mind your business

If you are going to start a business, you have to be prepared for this shit, because it’s coming for you. Your startup is going to have a failure in all degrees. Get your self image and self esteemed match fit. Train yourself not to think about what other people say OR what other people post on the ‘socials’. Fuck ‘em. Mind your business.

woman stretchingGet yourself match fit. Both physically and mentally

It’s what YOU think of you and that’s all that matters - full stop.

Pick yourself up dust yourself off and get back on the horse. Adjust your goals if you need to. Adjust your timelines and start again, knowing all the while what you did may not have gone as you planned it, but know this - you had a go.

All the armchair experts can say and write what they like. No effect on you. You have the superman cloak of dignity, self respect and an amazing knowledge. You are great. Just mind your business.

MIND YOUR BUSINESS STARTS AND ENDS WITH YOU

Hear this and hear it loud and clear -  in my experience the most important revelations in your life are as a person or a businessperson is - it starts and ends with you. It starts and ends with one simple question, “what do you think of you?”

Always ask yourself what did I do right? Evaluate what went wrong with a written summary. Make sure you understand this process, IN THIS ORDER. This is powerful stuff.

STORY TIME

OK story time kiddies.

Once upon a time I fell on a difficult time in my business. One deal after the other fell over for reasons I couldn’t control. It was like a domino effect. This happened quickly over a matter of 2 weeks.

I was working on an over-draft very close to the limit and with no future revenue for at least the next six to twelve months. Panic time. Sweaty armpit time. High blood pressure time. Get the picture.

Stress can be controlled. Get a grip. It is never as bad as you think it is.

What am I going to do? Well, the obvious thing is to bury my head in the sand. This worked until the PA informs me the bank manager is on the phone. Stress, stress. Now is the time to face the executioner. Know this, as a by-line, it’s never as bad as you think it’s going to be.

At this point in time, try telling yourself this.

“It’s not as bad as I think”

“It’s not as bad as I think”

“It’s not as bad as I think”

After the call, I sit back and quietly reflected on my position. Dead in the water? Abject failure? Food on the table? What will people say?

Mind your business. Just mind your business.

I won’t lie. All these thoughts went through my mind. This is the part where you are told, ‘its character building.’

Having a naturally positive attitude (don’t ask, I do not know where or how I got it, but I’m so glad I have it) I sit down and assess my position. I work out firstly I am in control. This issue starts and finishes with me.

A good self talking and I’m back on the horse.

Make a business plan, a path to follow and guide you through the tough times. It's your business so mind it.

I wrote a plan of action for the bank. I addressed the staff, talked to my family and developed a path back. Did I go broke? Nearly. If you read the “about me” page, you see where I ended up. What it did strengthened me.

Opportunities did present themselves. The business once again became profitable. And I learnt a valuable lesson in business. Talk to yourself. Tell yourself you are the greatest business person ever and you will never give up on you. Mind your own business. It is NEVER as bad as you think.

There ends the story.

Says it all doesn't it?

SUMMARY

In all these events, some great, some not so great. It always works out as long as you have your inner understandings of yourself clearly defined. Know who you are, what you are, what you stand for and what your values are. I will leave you with this marvellous phrase I learnt early in my business life from my mentor.

“You are who you are, and what you are by the dominating thoughts that occupy your mind”

How good is that? Take a moment and understand every word. Read it again. Write it down. Stick it on your bathroom mirror. Read it every day. This, my friends is my pearl of wisdom to you. You see business can be hard or it can be fun. It’s what you make it. Here’s another (don’t stop me I’m on a roll)

“it’s hard by the yard, cinch by the inch”

Go you good thing.

Until next we catchup remember…Just mind your business.
